MARTEL HELPS LAUNCH 5G ACTION GROUP FOR THE MEDIA INDUSTRY

5G-MAG

Martel is one of the 39 founding partners of the 5G Media Action Group (5G-MAG) and we were proud to attend its inaugural General Assembly, at the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) on 16 October.

The 5G-MAG was established to give a voice to the media industry in the 5G debate, including setting standards. Martel is ideally placed to provide input to help the media industry tackle technical, commercial and regulatory challenges as well as to exploit the opportunities offered by 5G.

The announcement of the founding of 5G MAG was made at IBC 2019 in Amsterdam and Martel CEO Dr. Monique Calisti was present, saying:

“5G technologies will enable new ways to engage with media, at this exciting time, it’s important to engage with the entire spectrum of stakeholders. Martel is an SME engaged with EC funded projects on 5G and IoT, as well as running a research and innovation lab in Ticino, we’re keen to share our experiences and predictions for the future media market.”

At the inaugural General Assembly last week, Martel’s Project Manager Kai Zhang joined the other members to approve the Statues and Internal Rules, elect a Steering Board of 21 representatives and its first Chair, Antonio Arcidiacono, EBU Director of Technology and Innovation.

Next steps for 5G-MAG will be to initiate work on the various topics identified at the General Assembly and to attract new members interested in shaping 5G deployments for the benefit of the media industry and the people who will enjoy new media content and distribution innovations.
