EAGER to discover novel solutions for Satellite Communications
Martel is part of the awarded consortium which will identify innovative technologies and techniques for Satellite Communications beyond 5G networks under the European Space Agency (ESA) funding framework.
To maintain Europe’s leadership in the definition and development of 3GPP-defined network solutions and prepare for the next generation of satellite networks with innovative technologies for Satellite Communications beyond the 5G non-terrestrial networks standard, a need for significant innovation breakthroughs in technologies, techniques, and architectures has been identified.
The EAGER project aims to address this need, conducting an in-depth evaluation of the 3GPP release 17 global standards for SatCom, including solutions partially or fully discarded within 3GPP release 18. The outcomes and insights will be collected in a final roadmap for beyond 5G satellite systems, paving the way for the use cases, technologies, and techniques that will constitute the heart of Europe’s 6G satellite communications.
A multidisciplinary team of European experts in space technology, mobile communications, and R&I dissemination will advance the different phases of the project. The partners include Thales Alenia Space Italia and France, Magister Solutions, and Martel Innovate who will work jointly for the next 15 months under the leadership of the University of Bologna. The collaboration officially started during the virtual kick-off meeting held on May 2, 2022.
“We are pleased to bring our expertise in the field of ICT research and innovation projects to the SatCom community and contribute to the promotion and further uptake of advanced technologies, such as 6G among others, to support a sustainable and inclusive development of our economy and society.” said the CEO of Martel Innovate, Dr. Monique Calisti.
