Joining forces with NEM to build the FMI

Martel had an intense and interesting time at the NEM Summit 2017, held on November 29th and 30th in Madrid (Spain). Besides participation to the main conference, Martel ensured support to the FLAME consortium in the organisation and moderation of its first workshop, which took place as part of the NEM Summit. As the final speaker in a series of engaging discussions and keynotes, Dr. Monique Calisti, Martel’s Managing Partner and Impact Manager of the FLAME project, spoke to more than 50 stakeholders about the Future Media Internet (FMI) ecosystem that FLAME is growing.

On the team’s return from Madrid, Martel took the step of formally joining the NEM, with its membership being ratified on December the 1st. The New European Media (NEM) Initiative is a European Technology Platform, fostering the convergence among Media, Content, Creative industries, Social Media, Broadcasting and Telecom sectors, as well as Consumer electronics to develop a common innovation environment for the new European media landscape.

Joining the NEM is a critical step for Martel that will allow increasing the visibility of its media-driven activities in the overall research and innovation scene. Martel’s peers in the NEM include all major European organisations working in the networked and electronic media area, including content providers, creative industries, broadcasters, network equipment manufacturers, network operators and service providers, academia, standardisation bodies and government institutions. Those actors share a common vision and are actively contributing to the FMI vision and ambition.
“Our membership in the NEM is an important milestone for our team,” said Monique Calisti. “NEM gathers a community that is fostering the convergence of existing and advanced technologies within the media and creative industry domain. The demand for multimedia internet services continues to grow exponentially and Martel is at work to develop the next generation of media and service delivery systems. Through our affiliation to the NEM we aim at developing strategic partnerships for further business growth in the media industry.“

The entire concept of media stands at the tipping point, as nature of its concepts, consumption and delivery changes rapidly. The FMI aims to channel this change, and something new and better. Through Martel’s own work, its work on FMI related projects, and its continuing collaboration with its peers in the NEM, Martel reaffirms its ongoing commitment to redefining media delivery and making the FMI vision a reality.
