Martel Innovate joins the FIWARE Foundation and the FIWARE Marketplace
Martel Innovate has been active in the FIWARE Community since 2011, as partner of XIFI project, supporting the creation and uptake of FIWARE community globally through the marketing first of FIWARE Lab and then of FIWARE Mundus initiatives.
The FIWARE Community is an independent open community whose members are committed to materialise the FIWARE mission, that is: “to build an open sustainable ecosystem around public, royalty-free and implementation-driven software platform standards that will ease the development of new Smart Applications in multiple sectors”. The FIWARE Community is not only formed by contributors to the technology (the FIWARE platform) but also those who contribute in building the FIWARE ecosystem and making it sustainable over time.
With Dr. Federico Facca joining Martel in early 2016 as Head of Martel Lab, we acquired strong competencies on FIWARE architecture and in particular on FIWARE Cloud, IoT and Data Management chapters. Dr. Facca is among the core technical figures in the FIWARE programme, within which he successfully supervised a heterogeneous team of more than 60 engineers from different ICT companies and major European research centres (e.g. Telefonica I+D, Thales, Engineering, Orange, Atos, etc.) contributing to the FIWARE Lab activities.
With the kick off of SmartSDK project, Martel is now working on a “cookbook” for developing smart applications in the Smart City, Smart Healthcare, and Smart Security domains. Moreover, Martel is partner of the FIWARE Mexico project, started in September 2016, and it is actively supporting the FIWARE community set-up in Mexico and knowledge transfer between Europe and Mexico.
Martel Innovate attended the First FIWARE Summit in Malaga, in December 2016, where the FIWARE Community introduced two important initiatives: the FIWARE Foundation and the FIWARE Marketplace. Soon thereafter Martel Management team decided to take upon these opportunities to further enhance the collaboration with the FIWARE Community, joining both initiatives in early 2017.
The FIWARE Foundation was founded in October 2016, headquartered in Berlin. Joining the FIWARE Foundation is a great opportunity to actively support and contribute to FIWARE Community, building an open sustainable ecosystem around public, royalty-free and implementation-driven software platform standards that will ease the development of new Smart Applications in multiple sectors. As a FIWARE Foundation member from its early stage will give Martel the chance to be part of a growing and sustainable ecosystem, contributing with its expertise, network and ICT competences. Dr Monique Calisti, Martel Executive Director and Partner adds “Joining the FIWARE Foundation is an exciting opportunity for us. Martel Innovate is the leading Swiss company in European R&D Innovation Management, with over 20 years of experience, providing a unique combination of R&D, Communication and Business Consulting Experience. We hope we can provide insights and rich contribution to the FIWARE Foundation, bringing our experience as an innovative and agile SME.”
Thanks to the competencies built in past five years, Martel has great expertise in FIWARE productions architectures, including High Available and Cloud based deployments of FIWARE IoT and Data Management services. Martel has recently launched its consulting/integration and training program to stimulate the uptake of FIWARE in Switzerland with a focus on Smart Cities. Within this context we believe the FIWARE Marketplace is an opportunity to introduce our services and experience to a broader international audience.
Martel believes that Open Source communities are a great channel to create world-wide sustainable innovation. FIWARE is not only and amazing Open Source community that has a bright future ahead; it is a great ecosystem made of brilliant innovators, competences and passion.
Don’t miss the opportunity to join FIWARE and shape its future together! We look forward meeting you at the Second FIWARE Summit in Berlin, by end of May 2017.
